Slide Guitar as a Second Language

with Phil Johnson

INTRODUCTION Many of us began our guitar playing careers by learning to accompany songs with chords, and that is how we will address our study of slide guitar. We will achieve our goal by becoming familiar with the many creative opportunities made possible by employing various "behind the bar" fretting techniques.

Using easily recognizable chords, scales and progressions, this video will introduce you to a variety of new and traditional slide guitar techniques that can be achieved on a standard guitar in standard tuning, adding a new dynamic to your music.

Here are a few examples from page 12 of the booklet. Most of them are in the key of D major. This will place our major (I) chord in the middle of the neck (fret # 7).

After you have had a chance to listen to and try these riffs follow the "easy"
Slide Guitar Lessons to learn the basics.
